The Lion and the Lamb

As I sat contemplating Scripture this morning, the figure of both the Lion and the Lamb struck me as truly beautiful—thus, come close and listen, dear friends, for I yearn to share the wonder of Jesus, whose beauty shines through the holy words of God. In Him, we find a mystery so deep it kindles the soul—a King who rules with might, a Savior who redeems with love.

See Him first as the Lion, bold and royal, as Jacob spoke of Judah: “Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him?” (Genesis 49:9). This is our Jesus, the Lion of Judah, the Root of David, who in Revelation 5:5 stands triumphant, worthy to unfold God’s eternal purpose. His roar is the anthem of heaven, His strength the shelter of all creation. No shadow can defy His sovereign will.

Yet, look again, and behold a Lamb, “standing, as though it had been slain” (Revelation 5:6). This is Jesus, too, the Lamb of God, proclaimed by John: “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). He is the gentle one of Isaiah’s vision, “like a lamb that is led to the slaughter” (Isaiah 53:7), bearing our guilt in silence. With seven horns and eyes, He holds all power and sight, yet pours it out to ransom us with His own blood.
Oh, the wonder of this truth! Jesus is not now a Lion, now a Lamb—He is both, ever and always. The Lion’s crown is won through the Lamb’s cross. The Lamb’s meekness is the Lion’s glory. Where He was slain, there He reigns. This is the heartbeat of God’s love, where might and mercy embrace.

What is this to us? To trust the Lion is to rest in His unshaken rule over every fear. To love the Lamb is to be held by the hands pierced for us. We are called to be like Him—fierce in truth as a lion, tender in care as a lamb. And one day, as Revelation 19 sings, the Lion will ride forth, “King of kings and Lord of lords,” while the Lamb bids us to His eternal table.
So, linger here, my friends. Let the Lion and Lamb steal your breath. Worship Him with all you are: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (Revelation 5:12). Share this joy—let our hearts sing His name!
